Hospitals occupy a unique position in our lives. They are anchors of their communities, often the largest employer in town, and for many people, the last resort when everything else has failed. Living up to that role is harder than it looks.

We’ve spent nearly two decades helping hospitals and health systems make the most of that position, doing work that strengthens both the institution and the community. The work is rarely simple, but the goal always is.

What we can do

Community health needs assessments are their own practice area at PGG. Hold tight; more detail coming soon. Everything else we do with hospitals and health systems is below.

Community Benefit Reporting and Compliance: We help hospitals understand, document, and defend their community benefit efforts. That includes Schedule H preparation, community benefit audits, reporting reviews, and recommendations for strengthening both the programs and the paper trail behind them.

IRS Nonprofit Compliance: The 501(r) requirements are detailed, and the stakes for getting them wrong are real. We help nonprofit hospitals navigate financial assistance policy development, application, and review, with an eye toward both regulatory compliance and genuine community access.

Financial Assistance Policy: We help hospitals design financial assistance policies that work, ones that are legible to patients, defensible to regulators, and structured to actually reach the people who need them most.

Community Benefit Programming: We work alongside health systems to design, evaluate, and strengthen community-focused programs, from planning through implementation. That includes identifying gaps, building collaborative partnerships, and making sure investments connect to documented community needs.

Payment Model Analysis: We evaluate payment structures and financing pathways with particular attention to how they affect lower-income patients and those who self-pay or carry medical debt. We help health systems understand where their models fall short and what better options exist.

Safety Net Strategy: We help hospitals explore and strengthen safety net pathways, including partnerships with FQHCs, charitable clinics, and other community providers, to reduce uncompensated care and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Program and Project Planning: From launch to evaluation, we help health systems design and manage programs that deliver on their stated goals and hold up under scrutiny.

Data Analysis and Visualization: We build custom dashboards and analytical tools that integrate internal hospital metrics with external public health data, giving leadership a clearer picture of where they stand and where they need to go.
